Trout Unlimited's Mission

Our Mission is to conserve, protect and restore North America's trout and salmon fisheries and their watersheds. Founded in 1959 in Grayling, Michigan, Trout Unlimited is America's leading coldwater fisheries conservation organization. TU's members nationwide are dedicated to the conservation, protection, and restoration of North America's trout and salmon and their watersheds.

We accomplish this mission on local, state and national levels with an extensive and dedicated volunteer network. The national office, based just outside of Washington, D.C., employs professionals who testify before Congress, publish TU's quarterly magazine, intervene in federal legal proceedings and work with TU's 100,000 grassroots volunteers in 455 chapters nationwide to keep them active and involved in conservation issues.

When you join Trout Unlimited, you become a member of the national organization. You may specify the TU Chapter to which you'd like to be assigned. You may choose to belong to a Chapter near you so that you can attend all their meetings and events. Or, you can choose a Chapter nearer your favorite fishin' holes, like JHTU for instance!

Chapters meet to hear about fishing hot spots from Maine to the Bahamas, discuss conservation issues, plan work days on their home waters, organize fundraisers, and of course, swap a few fish tales and learn how to tie the latest fly patterns. Looking for a fishing partner? Many chapters sponsor "Fish with a Friend" programs that connect members in search of fishing companions.

All members also receive TROUT, National TU's award-winning color magazine. You'll get four issues a year, full of conservation news, updates on TU activities, grassroots success stories, fishing destinations recommended by "The Budget Angler" and a "Master Class" on fishing from Gary LaFontaine.
